Joachim Gmoser was born in Villach, Austria. He and his family immigrated to Toronto, Canada, when Joachim was just four months old  Joachim ( pronounced Yo - heem ) displayed a keen interest in art from a very young age. He started taking private pastel classes at the age of 12, and began studying oil painting soon thereafter. After winning the Art OAC proficiency award in high school, he studied fine art for one year at Villa Maria College in Buffalo, New York, before attending Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario, where he obtained his illustration diploma in a three year program.

     After learning the fundamentals of drawing, painting, colour, design and composition, Joachim applied his artistic knowledge to his own work and continued to develop his drawing and painting skills to achieve the quality of work he expects from himself.

     Joachim spends most of his time painting a diverse array of subjects including portraits, wildlife, floral, landscapes, light-hearted fantasy and classical rendered copies. He has worked in the illustration field, specifically the collectable card game industry for companies such as Wizards of the Coast, Palladium Publishing, Precedence Entertainment and Alderac Entertainment Group.  

     Working in all media, but primarily acrylics and oils, Joachim simply strives to produce beautiful images that can be enjoyed by young and old alike. Residing in Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada, Joachim's impressive array of artwork is exhibited at Gallery Joachim, a home-based gallery which is available for viewing by appointment.
